I write this from the balcony of a luxury villa in Cabo San Lucas, enjoying my morning coffee with the sun, a myriad of birds, and a beautiful view of the ocean that stretches on and on to eternity. Not a bad way to start the day. I can almost forget that I have a nasty cold! There are so many different kinds of birds and pretty flowers for them to lounge on, like an old geezer, I could just sit here all day and bird watch. Soon the beach will be calling my name and I am sure many bebidas will follow. Hasta mañana.

Death and Weddings

Very hard to believe but my friend Brian got married in New Zealand and J and I went to the reception at Kitsap Memorial State Park. It was a really pretty spot, a log hall right on the water. We had a lot of fun and saw some old friends we hadn't seen in awhile. On another note, I had my second Dia de los Muertos party and it was a lot of fun. There was tons of food and lots of good friends. It was on a much smaller scale this year since it was on a Monday. I would say it was a success. Thanks to Mom & Dad with all their party help. Here are a couple pictures from the reception.

The weather has been so great this last week! That is not the reason I haven't been updating my blog, though. Just busy and really haven't had anything all that exciting to say. It is officially the start of bon fire season with a couple under our belt already. On the last bon fire we didn't need the heat but loved the 'ambiance'! Real estate seems to be picking up a bit. We sold another of J's houses a couple weeks ago which is great! The big news on my mind right now is J & I are going to start a new business. I am mulling over some name options right now. It is something we are already doing, I just want to make it a little more official so we can expand on it. Don't worry, details to come. I hope everyone is have a good start to their summer!

Early Tailgating

Yesterday we did our first tailgate of the year for the Spring game but mostly for Tiff's birthday. It was a good time and not only did Tailgate T come out but Tailgate J as well! Well, after a long week I got my computer back, wiped clean of viruses. I am very glad to have it back and have started what will I am sure be the long process of getting everything back in order. Potted Pork

The other day J and I popped into Cafe Campagne to escape the wind and enjoy happy hour. One of the things we ordered was the potted pork, or RILLETTES DE PORC. Needless to say, it was delicious and we tried to figure out what was in it and how it was made. I searched the internet not finding too many recipes that seemed suitable but I was able to find one that just might work. I made it the other night and surpirse, it was a big success!!! I am very pleased and will be making this several times in the future. Serve it on a toasted baguette with dijon mustard and cornichons on the side. Sea salt is a must as well.

Snow Happens

I am pretty excited at the arrival of the first snow of the year in Seattle! The only thing I was hoping for was a good view of the Olympics today but they are being shy. Maybe we will get a good snow sunset. I went for broke and got the biggest tree I have ever gotten this year. It looks pretty good, although a little sparse on ornaments. I am okay with that, though, because I don't want just any old ornaments on my tree. I like to buy ornaments while on vacation which makes putting up the tree a walk down memory lane. I also have rules now about what kind of ornaments can go on my tree....glass or shiny only. Only one ornament made the non-shiny cut and that is one J and I bought on August 31, 2001 in Bar Harbor, Maine. It was the first one I got for my tree before I had set my "standards" and is a snowman in a yellow rain slicker holding a lobster. Come on, it is cute! I hope you got a little snow wherever you are and that you are enjoying the season. I just wonder if it is worth doing my open house today. The streets are all frozen so I'm not sure if I can even get there!

Is almost gone. I am happy to say that I am on the road to recovery. Although it was nice to lay in my bed for a week and pretend the rest of the world and all the troubles it encompasses didn't exist! I am very happy that this is Turkey week, another whole week of living with my head in the sand:) Going to celebrate with the parental units and my brother and sister. Looking forward to some deep fried turkey and my personal favorite of seven layer salad. Taking the rv. Thankful to have the sweetest dog ever curled up on my lap at this very moment, keeping me toasty warm....oh yea, also thankful that I have a date with pupusas tomorrow night for dinner.

80 years and other bits....

This weekend I went to Oregon to help my grandma celebrate her 80th birthday with cake and coffee at the church. It was a good time and it got almost all of my family together which, in my opinion, doesn't happen often enough. We had a nice visit with the parental units as well. The weekend before, I had my dia de los muertos party which I think overall, was a success. I plan on having it again next year, which will be on a Monday. Plan you days off accordingly for next year! Here are a couple of picks from my goings on....

Best Cat Ever

My parents finally had to have Scruffy put down today and I am convinced he was the best cat ever. His nickname was the Dude because he was such a mellow macho man. He was the nicest cat, though. I don't remember one single time when he bit or scratched anyone, even when you had to give him medicine. He got his name because he was always dirty, like Pig Pen, he loved to lay in the dirt. When you patted his back clouds of dirt rolled off of him. He was quite the scrapper, too. Notice the notch in the ear in the above picture. I'm sure he always won:) He must have been at least 15 years old but probably older. We will never know since he adopted us and I am sure glad he did.

We got back from our trip to Yellowstone almost a month ago and I can't believe that tonight was the first night we went to our friend's house to hang out with them. They are our friends from El Salvador and the wife, Mariela, makes the delicious pupusas I am always talking about. Anyway, I wanted to put a picture up of the boys in the t-shirts (camisetas) my parents and us got them in Yellowstone.

Well, we made it back yesterday from our trip threw Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Jackson with the fam to celebrate a couple of birthdays. Minus the truck/rv troubles, we had a great time. I love Yellowstone but as this was my 3rd time in 7 years, I think I am good for awhile. That being said, I'm not sure I could ever get enough of the Grand Tetons. They are so beautiful and peaceful. I also love the town of Jackson, although I imagine it is a lot like Leavenworth...the novelty would wear off after awhile. Either way, I have been to the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar on several occasions now and appreciate it every time. I think my favorite things were the hike we did to Inspiration Point in the Tetons, bike riding around West Yellowstone, and we had a great dinner out for my dad's birthday and then listened to live music at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar. Apparently, either J or I have done something to upset the karma gods. Not sure what it could have been. Maybe it was the time I got too much change in the grocery store and I realized it later and didn't bring the extra back. There have been too many things in the last couple months that have happened to mention them all. For example, I went in last week to get a nail hole patched in my tire and ended up leaving with 4 NEW tires. Then, less than one week later I discover that I have a giant screw in the SAME tire I went in to get fixed. This morning we were set to leave Yakima at 7am for our big road trip and of course there was a major mal-function with J's truck that had a major service check this last week. Then, when we were already a couple hours behind, we stop at a rest stop to eat dinner. A kind truck driver came up to the rv and mentioned that there was something leaking out of the back of the rv. Turns out it was the power steering fluid. After some jerry-rigging, we were back on the road. We got into West Yellowstone at 12:20, the rv fun continues....the jacks won't go down, we are having a problem with one of the visors, blah, blah, blah. I hope we run into a bear in the park tomorrow because I am so ready for a brawl. Crap, since I said that it will probably happen:(

Although I haven't been entirely successful in the past, I decided to plant some vegetables this year. I have had herbs for a couple of years now that seem to do pretty well, even my basil looks good this year. The problem for me has always been that I don't think we ever get hot enough in Seattle for long enough. Well, things are looking pretty good this year. I planted cucumber, zucchini, jalepenos, and tomatoes along with various herbs and some great smelling lemon verbena. I have been using the herbs in my dishes for awhile now but today was my first harvest of vegetables. Today I picked a jalepeno and zucchini so here are some pics! Also, compare my pond picture to last years(on the bottom, duh).

Yesterday we took Jose and his family to the beach and had a great time. The weather was perfect and the beach was nearly empty. Before we headed down there I popped into Fred Meyer for some beach toys and they were a big hit. This was Diego's (in picture) first time at the beach and he was loving being able to get super dirty. By the time we left, both boys had sand in their ears, probably up their noses, and in their underwear!

Gangus and the Whaler

This week we had a couple of adventures worth mentioning. The other night J, my mom and I went to dinner at one of the houses that J built. He has become friends with the buyers and they had us over for a bbq. The picture is of their darling 18 month old and their dog Gangus. This little girl was so cute and so smart and she loves her doggy. Her dog, on the other hand, loved me and spent the entire evening trying to have sex with my leg. They said that this is fairly common for Gangus but they had never seen him want it this bad. Great, apparently I could ride off into the sunset with any golden retriever of my choice! It got so bad that when I took my shoes off he started licking them. Okay Gangus, now you're just getting creepy.
Yesterday, N was nice enough to take me with her on her first crabbing adventure of the season. This was also the first time taking the Whaler out of the season. At first, it didn't want to start. Of course, all we had to do was ask a guy if he could help us and then as soon as he was there, it started. How Rude! We had a great time out on the open water of Edmonds. We dropped two traps which were baited with roasted chicken and then took a little cruise around. Later in the evening, N went back with C and her brood and pulled the traps up. They got 11 total but only 5 males. That was okay because only N had a crabbing license. Hopefully there will be more adventures to come over the summer.

New Cruisers

Today we went to Camping World and got our new cruisers. They are folding bikes that are going to fit nicely in the bottom of Grover, the Traveling Rover, aka the RV. We even tested them out tonight with The Bandit running next to them. He wasn't too keen on that but didn't seem to mind too much when J picked him up and held him. We will have to figure out some sort of basket system. I have to say I felt like a kid again riding around the neighborhood. Good times! Don't worry, we took the price tags off before we rode them around!

The big news is that the filthy animal and Tailgate Tiff are expecting their first child. Technically, it is not my big news but I wanted to post it anyway. I had to wait so that they could tell people personally because believe or not, a couple of them read my blog! She is due February 8th which makes her almost 11 weeks along. When they find out the sex, I will let you know. On another note, J & T had their baby girl Baillie a couple of weeks ago and she is healthy and adorable. I will go and see her again once I am sure that the sore throat is only allergies and I am 100% healthy.

So, Jason and I were lucky enough to go the Mariners game the other night and sit in the Diamond Club. Someone that he sold a house to got four tickets and decided to take us. If you have never sat in the Diamond Club before, it is a lot of fun. It is right behind home plate but the best part about it is all the food and drinks are included. We had the buffet before the game which was actually pretty good for a buffet, but the real treat is the food you get to order at your seat. We were all stuffed but who can pass up the chance to order mini corn dogs?? No one I know. Anyway, enough about the food. Wouldn't you know, just my luck, I got up to use the bathroom and there was a bench clearing brawl on the field right in front of where we are sitting! Sexson charged the mound but I think the best part about it is he threw his batting helmut at the pitcher. All the while, I am in the bathroom. So goes life.

Reasons to love Seattle

There are many reasons to love Seattle, and right now I am trying to think of them all as I ignore the very chilly weather in May.....so much water around there are tons of places that you can get a cocktail with a view, you don't have to ever get that dressed up to go anywhere, fish & chips, the Pike Place Market early in the morning, the Viaduct, the Huskies in their glory days, and so much more. Oh, and of course, the fact that opening day of boating season is celebrated like a National Holiday....just another excuse to get drunk on a boat, rain or shine.

It's a miracle! We made it back from our trip without any problems with Grover, the traveling Rover. On the way home we stopped at Costco in Vacaville and were lucky enough to stumble on lemon trees for sale. We hauled one home in the shower of the Rv and it will be kept in the living room. Here is a shot of it now and I will post some progress shots as the months go on. I know, you are dying in anticipation!

And good food. Two of my favorite things which we have indulged in these last couple of days. We are rounding out our trip in Napa/Sonoma and living large. Don't worry, so far we haven't enjoyed more than three wineries per day and I don't think it is going to be any different today. We have also had some great food. A couple of times we have popped into Bouchon before our dinner reservations for a drink and some good atmosphere. The first night here we had steaks in the RV which were awesome! Two nights ago we ate at Redd in Yountville which received a Michelin star. We both agreed that it was good but not sure about the star rating. Last night we ate at Bistro Jeanty, which is a quaint French restaurant that also received 1 star from Michelin. The food was great, it was about 75 degrees and we ate on the patio. That always makes for a perfect dinner! The food was great, especially the tomato soup with puff pastry that they are famous for. They have the recipe on their web site so maybe when we get home and I am feeling ambitious I will try and make it. Well, off to shopping and more wineries today! I know, you feel really bad for me.

Sonoran Desert

Yesterday we went to the Sonoran Desert Museum West of Tucson. It was a pretty good time with interesting things to be seen. It is mostly ourdoors, part zoo, part botanical garden. I think our favorite was the hummingbird exhibit. J got dive-bombed an awful lot! We even saw baby hummers. Let me tell you, they were tiny. There nest is smaller than a coffee cup (find the nest in the photo). After a stop at the Cracker Barrel for breakfast this morning, we are on our way towards Napa. Conditions: windy and hot.

Greetings to everyone stuck in the land of gray and rain. At this moment, I am sitting outside our RV in 75 degree weather catching some rays. Yes, 75 degrees and it is only 10:30 in the morning. Today is our last full day in Tucson and we are going to spend it trying to soak up every last ray of sun we can. J is trying to get rid of the farmer tan and I am trying to stop blinding people with my legs. We have hung out a lot with C & S and went to the San Xavier mission yesterday. I got Indian Fry bread with honey. Of course I managed to get the honey in my hair, on my arm and on my toes. I just shouldn't be allowed to eat standing up! Here are a couple shots for you...

We had the parental unit's 40th Anniversary party this weekend and I would say it went off without a hitch! If you are ever in Yakima for dinner, I would highly recommend Gasperetti's for dinner. They did a great job. Everyone had lots of fun and we got to see people that we hadn't seen in years. It is crazy how people can look exactly the same to you after so long. I think my parents had a really great time which is the most important part. After all, 40 years is a pretty big deal!

This last weekend J, The Bandit and I went to help my Aunt and Uncle move back into their house. They had been displaced by the flooding from December down by Chehalis. All I can say is Holy Cow! After seeing some of the destruction, I can't imagine how people will come back from that. The truth is, some won't. It makes me feel very fortunate to have what I have. This last weekend I spent some time with some very dear friends and had an absolutely fabulous time. We reconnected at a cabin in the snow filled woods with the lull of a beautiful river in the background. If there is someone that you haven't talked to in a long time but keep thinking you should give them a call or send them an email, do it. Trust me, you will be so glad that you did. M & I are back from Mexico after a good time and plenty of sun. My stomach wasn't so happy most of the time which was a bummer but I could still enjoy the Pacifico. Home Sweet Home

We had some more highlights of the trip since the last time I wrote. We went to the Grand Canyon which was very impressive but very windy. That same night we made it to Las Vegas and parked at the KOA behind the Circus Circus. We went to dinner at Olives at the Bellagio and sat at a great table outside where we were able to watch the fountains. The fountain picture is from my phone so it is not as clear as some. We had a really great but short time in Vegas and then spent the whole next day driving to southern Idaho.......boring. There is nothing between Vegas and Idaho Falls. We made it back to Yakima to pick up the Bandit and then back to Seattle. I'm sure everyone is looking forward to seeing all of our pictures! Of course you are:) PS - The guy down below is known on the street as "The Dude"

Ranch, Sweet Ranch

Yesterday morning we left Haworth on our way to Amarillo. We made it without any major events and on the way I called the Big Texan Steak House. We pulled into the KOA about 8:15pm and I had the limo scheduled to pick us up at 9pm. Yes, I said limo. This crazy ass tourist trap will pick people up at hotels, rv parks, and semi stops. What a great idea, they pick you up, you eat and drink as much as you want, and then they take you back to where you came from. This is the home of the 72 oz steak. If you can eat it with the sides in less than hour, then it is free. There are a few worthy pics from this place but our internet connection tonight is so slow I'm lucky to be able to even get this done. Today we drove for another 8 1/2 hours and made it to Holbrook, AZ. Tomorrow we are headed to the Petrified Forrest and the Grand Canyon. We have decided if we are going to hit up Las Vegas or not. There is a KOA behind Circus Circus. After leftover dinner from Oklahoma, we are watching tv and probably are going to go to bed early tonight. We'll keep you posted. Oh, I forgot to mention, this post got it's name because the Big Texan makes their own ranch dressing and it was delish. Not only do they make it, they sell it to go and you can believe that I bought a jar of it. Yummy!

A Goal In Mind

After the reception we went back to the RV and watched the Huskies blow it once again. M made it into OKC just fine and we woke up Sunday morning and hit the road to my Aunt's house, leaving E & T in OKC for their flight home. On the way to her house we stopped and had breakfast at the Cracker Barrel. I had country fried steak and it was great! We made it to the little town of Haworth, OK, just fine and had a great visit with my great aunt. Of course she put on a big spread for us for breakfast and dinner. For dinner we had pork ribs and beef brisket with a bunch of sides. For breakfast she made biscuits and gravy with bacon and sausage on the side...yummy. We are now on the road and trying to make it to Amarillo by (no, not by morning) but by about 9pm tonight so we can eat at the Big Texan Steak house. I'm not sure if we will make it before it closes so I will keep you posted! Most of the time wireless internet is too slow to post any pictures so when I have a faster connection I will put some more on. Give the Boss Man a big kiss for me! Forgot to mention that last night we had the most amazing thunder and lighting storm ever and it rained as hard as it ever has in Seattle. I don't think my mom would have gotten one second of sleep.

OKC Update

So we have been in OKC a couple days and mostly done a lot of pre-wedding drinking. The wedding just got over and we are in the rv waiting for the pictures to be done. J and I went to the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial and Museum which was totally worth going to. It was a pretty powerful place and I would recommend it to anyone in town. Last night after the rehearsal we went to a bar with live music which was great. The guys name was Cory Morrow and I guess he has toured with Pat Greene. We had a ton of fun and stayed out way too late. I finally put my head on the pillow at about 3:30 this morning...dang, that's late. My brother gets in tonight and tomorrow we are off to my Aunt's house in southeastern Oklahoma. Hope everyone is doing well.

The Flat Windy Lands

We left Jackson yesterday at about 10am and made it to Limon, Co at about 9pm. After a dinner of tailgate chili and watching the video from when we played catchphrase, we slept at the Flying J truckstop. The video was hilarious and I'm convinced it should be on You Tube because jason was so drunk! We are now driving threw Kansas, which is less than thrilling. I did the dishes for excitement. We are going to stop in Salina, KS, for lunch at the Hickory Hut and then on to OKC. Hopefully we'll get there by about 6pm or 7pm.

Hi everybody, I'm Johnny Cash....oh sorry, I had a song in my head. Yesterday we did more Yellowstone and the great Tetons. We saw some pretty fantastic stuff yesterday and have no idea how many times we said "amazing" or "beautiful" or "awesome". We really got lucky with a great day as we made our way to Jackson, WY. We are now at the hotel where I purchased internet access for the day otherwise I wouldn't be able to get my pictures on the web. I will post a few pictures here but check out the flickr site for all the action. We ended our night last night at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar which is always a good time. Boss Man, Filthy Animal, and Devil Woman are golfing right now and I am going to do some shopping. Enjoy!

The Animal Checklist

Today we toured giant Yellowstone National Park, well, part of it anyway. We had some high animal hopes today and we feel that most of them were met. There is a discrepancy on what animal we actually saw first since we did have a bet on it, I said bison first, E said elk, J said bear, and T hedged her bets and said bird. We probably saw a bird first but I don't think we are counting it. Then we saw bison and elk in the same field which I think counts as a tie.

Following the Light

We left Yakima bright and early this morning on the road to Yellowstone. It was a long day of driving with a lot of pretty scenery. I have to say that Idaho was probably the prettiest scenery we saw. A lot of vibrant yellow and red trees. We are now in West Yellowstone just outside of the park and tomorrow we will be exploring the great National Park. On the way here, we ran into about 40 miles of snow which was pretty cool. It is supposed to get down to about 22 degrees tonight....chilly. We are just waiting to see if Tailgate Tiffany shows up or stiff up the butt Tiffany....it all depends on how the nap played out! We saw a pretty cool opening of light on the way here....pictures included...you can check the flickr site, too. Okay, I've tried but my connection is too slow tonight. On Our Way

Well, we are down the road a ways....not that far really. We are almost to Yakima for the first night of a big time road trip. We finally got out of Seattle and have been on the road just long enough for T to decide it was nap time, J to step in something less than appealing outside, and E to relax after a very stressful week. The Bandit has of course bounced around and been his hyper-vigilant self. I feel like I am driving down the road in my bed....it is great. Thanks again to our awesome housesitters, if you were any more armed I would swear we were in Texas. Check back daily for pictures and updates.

On The Road Again

We had a good last couple of days. We did the Napa thing a couple days in a row (the Silverado Trail, of course) and drank and purchased plenty of wine to last us for awhile. The weather got considerably better which was nice. We had a great dinner at Bouchon in Yountville and a so-so dinner in Petaluma. We did get the better site for 2 nites by the way. It was an end unit with lots of space for J's roaring fires. We packed up this morning and headed North on US 101. Our first stop was the Costco in Santa Rosa. After spending $500 on Costco priced liquor, it was back on the road. After today, I am sure J knows how to handle this big beast. It was a very pretty drive but a little tight up 101! We stopped for the evening at the less than inspiring KOA just north of Eureka. After dinner, we are settling in for an evening of movies and magazines. Bosco has taken his place on the couch on top of down blanket. We are northward bound tomorrow and in for some more crazy road tomorrow.

Learning Curve

Another day in the RV and I am figuring out more and more that I don't have a lot of stuff that we need. That's okay though, there is plenty of time to buy things. Yesterday we did some shopping at the outlets, ate some bbq, had some sparkling wine with a great view,and watched the first 3 quarters of the Husky game. We called a sports bar close the park and they told me they would have the Dawgs on tv. When we got there, they said they couldn't get the channel. They had 14 tvs and they couldn't get the channel! J made a few phone calls and we ended up at a little hamburger joint with 4 tvs and the owner put the game on for us. If you are ever in Petaluma, head to Julians by the G & G grocery store. The owner was a really nice guy and only 26 years old. He opened the place 3 years ago and is now studying to become a radiologist. It is always impressive to meet someone with that much drive and motivation.

This morning I made our first meal in the RV....eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon. Overall it was pretty good but since I realized that we don't have salt after I had already gone to the grocery store, we had to make due. A bunch of people checked out this morning so J is seeing if we can get a better spot. Stay tuned.......

Maiden Voyage

Okay, so I stole these pictures from my Big B's flickr site, but I forgot to bring the cable to my camera so I could load my own. We are on our maiden voyage with the RV and so far it has been an adventure. We left Seattle on Thursday of course an hour and a half late and got to Eugene around 8:30pm. B, or E, as her friends call her, met us at the RV park and checked out the new digs. Then after a failed attempt to leave Bosco in the RV, he came along for the ride. After a delicious meal and good drinks at a place called Marche (I recommend it if you are in Eugene, good job B) we went to check out B's place. It is a great place. That is where the picture comes from. Bosco had such a stressful day we decided to reward him with some of B's organic peanut butter. It seemed to be a little more difficult to eat than regular old Jiffy.

The next morning we hit the road for Napa. It was a long day mostly because Bosco is really a spaz in the RV. Every time we take off or stop, he freaks out. We are hoping that over time he calms down a little. It could happen (or not). We are now securely in our spot at the RV park and ready to venture out into the wet world. It is supposed to be nicer on Monday and Tuesday.

Thanks to our house sitters, although I'm sure they are loving being able to take a shower. Their sewer is broken, ouch!

Yesterday the Huskies broke BSU's 14 game winning streak in front of just over 70,000 fans. I can't remember the last time it was that loud in Husky Stadium, probably when I was in college. I could barely even hear the band. We have moved further around the horseshoe this year and are over the tunnel where the players come out. What a beautiful day for football and tailgating. I had planned on taking lots of pictures with my fancy new camera but of course the battery died after just a few. Next week will be better. Here are just a few that I did manage to get....

Trainspotting

Last night we had a bonfire on the beach with friends. What a relaxing way to spend the evening. Nice fire, nice sunset, nice wine. One of the highlights of the evening is a hobo. A hobo you say? Yes, a hobo. The trains often stop at North Beach to let other trains get past a certain point where there is only one set of tracks. When one of the trains stopped, a guy got off and asked us for some beer. He had been riding the rails since the east coast and was coming to see some friends in Seattle. We didn't have any beer to offer but did send him on his way with a screw top bottle of white wine! Good times, good times.

On the Road Again

Like I mentioned before, we are getting ready for our big trip to OKC and will be driving. It is all planned out as to what we are going to do along the way with our homeys, but we still haven't planned our route or stops for the way back. I have been doing a little research but haven't been able to come up with anything that is lighting my fire. If you know of any cool stops along the route, let me know. The route will probably consist of Northern Texas (Amarillo by Morning), threw New Mexico and Arizona, and then up threw Cali. Let me know if there is something I can't miss along the way.

By the by, last night I made a great recipe for scallops with cooked carrots and bacon. If you are interested in trying it, I'll give you the recipe. I had to make it up. I was trying to replicate a recipe from Campagne.

This weekend I ventured down to the land of Port, otherwise known as Portland, to meet up with my parents and sister at the antiques and collectible show. I know, I know, what an exciting life I do lead. It was a good time had by all. We walked around and checked out all sorts of pretties and all sorts of overpriced crap. I didn't really buy much but I was close. The above image is what I almost bought but I didn't like the framing. It was an etching signed by the artist from the late 1920s early 1930s who seemed to have a fascination with dogs urinating. I thought it would be good bathroom humor. If you want to look him up on the web his name is Boris O'Klein. Apparently, he was a Russian who went to Paris to earn his artist chops and that is where he developed his risque fascination. After the show we went out to dinner and then back to my parent's trailer for the night and I taught them how to play Mexican train. A good time was had by all and especially by my mom as she was the victorious one. Below is my artsy fartsy picture of the game. It really does have a horrible name, though. It sounds like something that should happen in an East LA prison. What a good game! I took second.

Traversing the High Seas

Today C & I had a big adventure....we went kayaking around the arboretum. We started on the outskirts of Lake Union and had to go threw the Montlake Cut, that was interesting. There were a few boats definitely going over the speed limit and we were tossed about. We were rewarded when we reached the arboretum, nice calm waters, lots of ducks, and a heron. The biggest reward of all was C saw an old naked man swinging his weiner in his friends face. I guess the freaks come out with the heat. Needless to say, we made it back in one piece and I am no longer a kayak virgin.

Well, it is now the official middle of the night and I feel I have nothing to write about so I will fall back on a debate my sister and I have had many a times. The song "Hungry Like the Wolf" by Duran Duran states that they "Smell like they sound". I am curious as to just how that smells. The thing that they have on their side is they are all lyrical. If I smelled like I sounded, it would be terrible. I even tried singing in the shower to see if it all changed my "smell" and decided that I was a lost cause. The other song on my iTunes with the word "hung" it...."Hunger Strike" by Pearl Jam. Did that also have Soundgarden in it? Oh, the grunge days of our youth. I don't mind stealing bread.....

Fitness Camp

So we are officially done with the first week of fat camp....er, I mean Fitness Camp. No I won't tell you when and where we meet so that you can come and make fun of me. Basically, some girlfriends and I (not in a sexual way filthy animal) meet up with about 30 other crazy people and have someone boss us around for an hour and fifteen minutes. It seems like an eternity. It hark ens back to my old soccer glory days when in the summertime, we would have four practices a day. You were so tired you went home and ate and went to bed. I don't think I even talked to my sister in the car on the way home....but I digress. Week one is over, I'm sore as hell in places I didn't even know muscles existed anymore, and I think it is great.

I thought I would start off this fascinating chronicle of altercations with concerts that I can remember going to. Some are pretty embarrassing, some were great and I'm sure that I will leave some off the list but you gotta start somewhere.....

*Kenny Loggins - The first, and in my mind, I had made it. I think that was 5th grade and he played the fair...I cut loose, footloose.
*Michael Bolton - Also at the fair, questionable to most.
*New Kids on The Block - NKOTB to some. I went with my friend Melissa to Seattle and although I tried to act like I thought they were stupid, I had a great time.
*Richard Marx - Also with my friend Melissa plus Jennifer, in Seattle. We stopped in Capital Hill before the concert to use the bathroom and I saw my first gay kiss. Who knew Richard Marx would end up being so taboo?
*Jo Dee Messina
*Indigo Girls -Free tickets
*Clint Black
*Air Supply - Now that's embarrassing.
*Jimmy Buffett - I might vote for him for president but I'm not sure he would help our world image...just a guess.
*James Taylor - He sounded exactly the same in concert as he did on his live cd....weird how that happens. He was at the Gorge and unbelievable.
*Marc Cohn - He was at zoo tunes and sounded great but many kids needed a spanking that day.

*Tim McGraw - Twice. The first time, not so much. The second time, he rocked.

*The Police - Most recent concert on a trip to Vegas. I'm sure they sounded exactly the same as they did in the '80s. They were really good and the gambling and company was great.
